01Who we are
This website is run by the Association of University Students (AUSA), the student union for the university. When we say “we” or “us”, we mean AUSA. We are responsible for the personal information you share with us through this site, and we handle it in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.
02What we collect
We only ask for what we need for the thing you’re doing:
- Feedback. Your message, the type and topic you choose, and — only if you give them — your name and email. If you switch on “Send anonymously”, we don’t collect your name or email at all.
- Event tickets. The ticket type, quantity, any shuttle seats, and the details needed to issue and check your ticket.
- Transport bookings. Your full name, matric number, phone number, and the trips and number of seats you choose.
- Poll votes. Polls don’t need an account. To allow one vote per device, we use a random device id saved in your browser, a fingerprint of your browser (details such as its screen size, time zone and how it draws text) and your network address. We keep only scrambled (hashed) copies of these alongside your vote, never the details themselves, and never link them to your name. They’re used to stop a device voting twice and to spot one browser voting many times, which AUSA may remove. They’re kept with the poll and deleted if the poll or its event is deleted. See our Cookie Policy.
- Payments. Card and bank details are entered on our payment provider’s secure page. We never see or store your full card number.
- Usage data. Anonymous, aggregated statistics about which pages are visited, collected without cookies. See our Cookie Policy.
03How we use it
- To issue tickets and seats, check people in at events and buses, and contact you if plans change.
- To read, route, and respond to your feedback.
- To keep records of payments and refunds, as required for accountability to students.
- To understand which parts of the site are useful and improve them.
04Why we’re allowed to
We process your information because you asked us to provide something (a ticket, a seat, a reply), because you consented (for example, leaving your email on a feedback form), or because we have a legitimate interest in running safe, well-organised events and keeping honest financial records.
06How long we keep it
Ticket and transport records are kept for the academic session they belong to, plus one further session for accounting and dispute purposes, then deleted. Feedback is kept for as long as it takes to deal with it and for one session afterwards. Anonymous statistics may be kept longer because they can’t identify you.
07Your rights
You can ask us to:
- Tell you what information we hold about you and give you a copy.
- Correct anything that’s wrong.
- Delete your information, where we don’t need to keep it.
- Stop using it for a particular purpose, or withdraw consent you’ve given.
Email [email protected] and we’ll respond within 30 days. If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information, you can complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
08Keeping it safe
Only the AUSA officers who need your information for a task can access it. The site is served over an encrypted connection, and payments are handled entirely by our payment provider. No system is perfectly secure, but if something goes wrong we will tell affected students and the regulator as the law requires.
09Changes to this policy
If we change how we use your information, we’ll update this page and the date at the top. For significant changes, we’ll also announce it on the site.
Email [email protected] or visit the AUSA Secretariat, Student Union Building, Main Campus.
